Pap smear / Colposcopy

Papanicolaou (cervical cytology) is a procedure used to obtain cells from the cervix in order to observe them with a microscope and thus detect if there are infections or cancer or pre-cancer caused by the human papilloma virus. Cervical cancer is the third leading cause of mortality due to malignant neoplasms in women, affecting the 25 to 69 age group, second only to breast cancer. With timely detection, better treatment can be provided and the risk of cancer can be reduced. If you have or have had an active sexual life, you should have an annual Pap smear. Colposcopy is performed when the Pap test (cervical cytology) reveals abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix, when your gynecologist observes suspicious lesions, or when you want to monitor previously treated lesions.

Vaginal Infections

Vaginal infections and diseases are very common and arise for various reasons that may or may not be sexually transmitted. They range from venial to more serious. They usually manifest themselves with bad odor, itching, unusual discharge, or burning. Do not let the problem grow or try to self-medicate with a drugstore treatment, but rather go to a gynecologist who can examine you and recommend the right treatment for you.

Family Planning

Deciding when to have children is up to you and your partner. Today there are many contraceptive methods that vary in their use, effectiveness, convenience and price. It is important to talk to your gynecologist to see which one best suits your lifestyle. Some of the most commonly used methods are:
– Intrauterine devices (IUDs) such as the copper T and others.
– Implants in the arm
– Birth control pills
– Condoms
– Salpingoclasia (tubal ligation)

Gynecologic and Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic gynecological surgery, commonly known as laparoscopy, is a minimally invasive surgical technique, since it allows the patient to undergo surgery without having to open the abdomen by making small incisions. Currently, it is being used in many pathologies such as cancer or for the removal of cysts and fibroids. Hysterectomy and endometriosis surgery are also performed with this technique and, in fact, practically any gynecological surgery can be performed using this type of approach.

Menopause and Climacteric

Climacteric is a transition between the reproductive and non-reproductive phase. Around the age of 40, the frequency of ovulation decreases, signaling the beginning of a period of progressive deterioration in ovarian function, called climacteric. This stage can last up to 20 years, the fundamental characteristic being a depletion of reproductive cells (oocytes) in the ovary with a consequent decrease in estrogen synthesis. All these new events manifest themselves with lower fertility and the arrival of menopause with its characteristic signs and symptoms.

Menopause is the stage in a woman’s life when menstrual periods naturally cease. Menopause marks the end of the reproductive years. The average age of menopause is 51 years. Menopause is different for every woman. Some women hardly notice any changes in their bodies; others may find it difficult to cope with the symptoms. Some of the symptoms that occur are hot flashes, difficulty falling asleep, increased risk of fractures due to extensive bone loss, vaginal dryness, frequent vaginal and urinary tract infections. Currently, there are several therapeutic measures to prevent or treat these symptoms.
